Abstract
Reimagining the Cully 5 Corners is a project spearheaded by the Cully Coalition and Confluence Planning + Design, aiming to create a vision and plan for a centralized, connected, resilient hub for this area of NE Portland, Oregon.
The Cully Coalition envisions Cully as an equitable and socially just neighborhood that enriches and uplifts all community members while minimizing displacement, improving community cohesion, and supporting economic vitality.
Like many Portland areas annexed in the late 20th century, the Cully neighborhood has experienced decades of relative underinvestment in terms of public services, urban design, and business development.
Uplifting Cully starts with the 5 Corners intersection, located at the heart of the neighborhood at the crossroads of Cully Blvd, NE Prescott, and NE 60th. The project team's main objectives are:
SAFETY - Elevate pedestrians with safe and connected passage for all.
INTERCONNECTED + ACCESSIBLE - Safe and accessible transportation and pedestrian options, connecting concentrated community services both within Cully and to downtown.
EQUITY - Authentic Cully experiences that improve quality of life, prevent displacement, and encourage community-centered economic opportunities.
SOCIAL COHESION - Community gathering space to inspire connection and increase resiliency.
GREEN RESPITE - Urban greening strategies to create shade and beauty to support pedestrians.
