Roberts' personal experience with loss and grief after her husband's passing in 1993 informed her book, Death Without Denial, Grief Without Apology, which was published in 2002. She visited the Tillamook County Hospice center to read passages and to talk with care providers. The book, now in its third printing, is now a frequently-used resource by hospice providers and families, and is often used in university classes on death and dying.
