This collection contains footage of pivotal performances from leading Portland dance artists. Our mission is to collect, preserve, and share Portland's rich and unique dance history.
Current entries have been collected by local dancer, filmmaker, and educator Eric Nordstrom as part of his research for his documentary, Moving History: Portland Contemporary Dance Past and Present.
Do you have a performance you would like to share in this collection? Members of the Portland dance community who hold the rights to performance recordings are invited to contribute to this archive. We welcome all dance forms, genres, and styles.
Video submission of dance work to the Portland Dance Archives should be:
- high quality choreography, production value, and video clarity;
- pertinent to Portland dance history;
- emblematic of an artist's, company's, or program's work;
- performed in the greater Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area.
Depositors must hold all rights to the submitted footage, including choreography and music, or can provide documented agreements for use that allow sharing with Portland State and open public access in any format for non-commercial educational purposes.
PSU Library Special Collections does not license footage, nor do we charge for access. Requests for reproduction, exhibition, or licensing will be referred back to the donor organization.
Preferred video formats are .mp4, .wav, .avi, and .mov. We may also be able to transfer recordings from VHS and VHS-C cassette, but all other legacy formats must be transferred prior to submission. Please contact us if you would like to submit a recording on cassette.
Submit your recordings to the Portland Dance Archives here or by contacting us at specialcollections@pdx.edu. Thank you!
