This scrapbook contains photos and documents of the Portland Branch of the NAACP, 1950-1959. During this time period, the organization was working to support Oregon Senate Bill No. 169, known as Oregon's Civil Rights or Public Accommodations bill. The bill was signed into law in April 1953. The scrapbook consists primarily of photos, as well as some documents pertaining to the Civil Rights bill.
As part of the Verdell A. Burdine and Otto G. Rutherford Collection, this scrapbook is number 17 of 17 photo albums. The overall collection contains photographs, newspapers, publications, and family history documents, as well as records for numerous community groups, African American civil rights organizations, women's clubs, fraternal orders, and churches in Oregon.
